The Gift of India Yoga School offers in-depth training for those who wish to partake in an authentic training experience. Training underpinned by yogic philosophy and delivered by a practitioner with unsurpassed experience.

The Yoga Foundation Course is a 40 hour course, running over 6 days of 7 hours
​
Aims: to supply the participants with the knowledge and experience of all the yoga practices, their nature, history and text evidence, provide the basis to continue to a Yoga teacher Training or other further paths on the Yoga Journey, to give the participants the clear understanding of what Yoga is and what it is not.

Leaning outcomes:
By the end of the course the students should know and be able to explain:

the classical Yoga practices
-
some basic facts about the history of Yoga -History

some details about the most common classical texts
By the end of the course the students should be able to:

practice asana in the attempt of sthira sukha
-
name all the 8 limbs
-
avoid dangerous practiced
-
relate to the purpose of classical Yoga scriptures
By the end of the course the students should feel and sense:

an inspiration to delve deeper into the Yoga
-
drawn to the scriptures
-
their Yoga practice having deepened
-
enthusiastic to continue the yoga journey into a teacher training or other further development
The participants are expected to:
-
attend all meetings, in case of being unwell zoom links will be provided
-
pay the full course fee in advance. There is no refund if the course is not completed.

arrive at the course meetings in time and stay to the end
-
revise the course material
There is no course work or assignments, the purchase of some books is recommended but not obligatory, handouts will be provided.

Wellcome, course overview and ‘what is Yoga’

Asana, what are they, text evidence, history, purpose, process and practical

What we are, the koshas
-
The 8 limbs, yamas interpreted and applied
Day 2:

Asana practical following Patanjali 2,26-487

Yoga History and India Culture
-
Prana, pranamaya kosha chakras, nadis vayus

Niyamas, interpretation and application
Day 3:
-
Gita, Upanishads, Bhakti, Karma and Raja

Asana practical with sthira shukha asanam
-
Asana benefits: physical, pranic, mental and spiritual, text evidence

Dangers in Yoga?
Day 4:

Pranayama as in Patanjali and Hatha texts, not respiratory practices

Patanjali Yoga Sutras

Asana practical with pranayama

Meditation, samyama in Gita Upanishads and Patanjali
Day 5:

Asana practical with pranayama and bandhas

Hatha Yoga and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Kundalini, sushumna, granthis

Mudras and Bandhas text evidence and interpretation and practice

Surya Namaskara in detail

Mantra Yoga and chanting

Becoming a yoga teacher, way, purpose and joy
